In the heart of the Cordillera Central mountain range, you'll find the city of Jarabacoa. This jewel of the Dominican Republic is one of the most popular summer vacation locations for the wealthy.
What was a sleepy mountain town, Jarabacoa is now one of the most popular places to invest in residential property. This city offers some of the most unique real estate opportunities on the island. From mountainside chalets to fertile farm land, this is definitely the place to consider if you want to live in the Dominican mountains. Think of Vale, Colorado, or Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in the French Alps and you will soon discover that Jarabacoa is the Dominican equivalent, just minus the snow. But don't be fooled, although this is the middle of the Caribbean, due to the elevation, temperatures can drop considerably. Higher up in the mountains the temperature can drop down to freezing point. The city of Santiago is only 30 minutes away where the temperature is on average 28 degrees centigrade, or 82 degrees Fahrenheit and so during certain cold winters the temperature differences can be extreme between the two cities. If you are visiting Jarabacoa then it is advised to bring warm clothes.

Jarabacoa is the starting point for those wanting to hike Pico Duarte, highest peak in the Caribbean, at 3087 meters (10,128 feet).
